It is our sad duty to report the passing, on January 7, 2020, of Lowell V. Hammer, Past Commander-in-Chief (1991-1992).
He also served as the Grand Army of the Republic Highway Officer, Washington, D.C. Liaison Officer, National Council of Administration, Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief, and Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief.
Brother Hammer was a Colonel in the Sons of Veterans Reserve. He was a Past Department Commander of the Maryland (now Chesapeake) Department and a Past Camp Commander of the Lincoln-Cushing Camp #2.
Brother Hammer served as Commander-in-Chief of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States during 1989-1991. He is one of only four Brothers to have commanded each National organization. His family will hold memorial services later in the year.
