Obituary

Bath – George O. Melzard, 81, 0f 106 Court St. died Monday at a local hospital after a short illness.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., son of Joseph A. and Annie M. Perry Melzard.  He attended schools there and moved to Freeport in 1911 and Bath in 1920.

Mr. Melzard was employed in the security division of the Bath Iron Works for 28 years, retiring in 1962.

He was married to Viola F. Ingraham in 1922.  Mrs. Melzard died in November of 1970.

He was an Army veteran of World War I and served with the Coast Guard Reserved during World War II.  He was a past commander of the Sons of Union Veterans, a life member of the American Legion, a member of the WWI Veterans and the Knights of Pythias.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Wilson F. (Eunice) Fitzgerald of West Bath; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the David E. Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High St., the Rev. William Grice officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
