Obituary

Clarence P. Renell, 57, of 87 Sherwood St., last year’s Maine commander of the Sons of Union Veterans, died unexpectedly Wednesday at a local hospital after a short illness.

Mr. Renell was born in Island Pond, Vt., July 1, 1902, son of the late Martin and Eleanor Charke Renell.  He attended Portland schools and was a Deering High graduate.

For 38 years, Mr. Renell had worked for the Portland Water District where he was a general foreman and supervisor.  He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy, and a member of Atlantic Lodge, AF & AM, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and the Maine Water Utilities Assn.

Besides his widow, the former Susie L. Winslow, he is survived by tow daughters, Mrs. Eileen Mason, South Portland, and Mrs. Edna M. Wade, Portland; three grandchildren; a brother, George A.C. Renell, Wallingford, Conn.; three sisters, Mrs. Edna Peavey and Mrs. Bernice Kennedy, both of Portland, and Mrs. Eleanor Barrows, Newport, R.I.; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at 749 Congress St., with the Rev. Elmer Smith officiating.  Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Falmouth.
