Obituary
Llewellyn Lithgow Cooper, for many years a member of the Stone and Cooper coal company of this city, died early Tuesday morning at his home on Sewall street following a short illness of pneumonia. Mr. Cooper was 62 years old, the son of Capt. Llewellyn L. and Maria Elizabeth Andrews Cooper, who at the time of their son’s birth were in Waterford, Ireland. Capt. Cooper, who was a seafarer, was a native of Pittston, and Mrs. Cooper was of Hallowell.
The family returned to Maine and came to Augusta to make their home when the son Llewellyn was about 10 years of age. He was educated in the Augusta public schools and Capen Business college. He was a Commandery Mason and a member of the Sons of Veterans, at one time being Colonel, commanding the Maine Division, Sons of Veterans.
For a number of years Mr. Cooper was assistant treasurer of the Edwards Manufacturing company. He was a member of Governor Frederick W. Plaisted’s staff. About 20 years ago he became a member of the firm of Stone and Cooper, coal dealers of this city in which he was active up to the time he was taken ill.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, who was Miss Alice Brown of Ellsworth, two brothers, Thomas A. and James S. Cooper, two nephews, Llewellyn L. and E. Smith Cooper, and one [sic] nephew, Mrs. Betty Cooper Ellis, all of Augusta.
Funeral services will be held at the home, Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock for Llewellyn L. Cooper at his late home on Sewall street. The services were conducted by Rev. Paul F. Phalen of Newton, Mass., former pastor of All Soul’s Unitarian Church of this city. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, and the services were attended by a large number of relatives and friends.
The bearers were the brothers, T.A. Cooper and J.S. Cooper, and two nephews, E. Smith Cooper and Llewellyn L. Cooper. Burial was in the Forest Grove cemetery.
