It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Brother John Francis Battick at a Bangor hospital on October 22, 2024. Jack was a Brother of Col. C. S. Douty Camp No. 11 in Dover-Foxcroft. He joined the S.U.V.C.W. in 2004 as an Associate of Daniel Chaplin Camp #3, Bangor, and served as its Camp Commander in 2006 and2007 before transferring to Douty Camp 11 in 2020.
At the time of his death, Jack was the oldest Brother in-good-standing in the Department of Maine at the age of 92.
Brother Battick was a U. S. Navy veteran and CPO in the submarine service. He earned a PhD from Boston University and was an Associate Professor of History at the University of Maine, with a passion for maritime and naval history. In addition to the SUVCW, Jack was a proud lifetime member of Maine Sub Base 1, was a member and officer of both state and local historical and genealogical societies, and served as a trustee on both the Maine Maritime Museum and Penobscot Marine Museum. Jack is survived by his wife (and fellow DUVCW Sister) Nancy Battick after 49 years of marriage.
