Obituary

Pittsfield – Ralph E. Knowles, 70, died Saturday afternoon at a Waterville hospital.

He was born at Pittsfield June 2, 1905, son of Wilbur and Clara Young Knowles.  He was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield where he was a member of Meridian Lodge, AF & AM.  He was a former member of the Sons of Union Veterans fo the Civil War, a former member of the Phlentoma Lodge, IOOF, and a former member of the Bethlehem Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.  He was retired from the Maine Central Railroad after 23 years of service and at the time of his death was serving on the Pittsfield Cemetery Board.

He is survived by his wife, Althea, Pittsfield; tow sons, Kenneth of Hodgdon and Dale, serving with the U.S. Navy at Groton, Conn.; one daughter, Mrs. Olive McLeod of St. Albans; three brothers, George and Clarence, both of Pittsfield, and Arthur of Unity; two sisters, Ethel Knowles and Mrs. Ella Debay, both of Pittsfield, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at the Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, Pittsfield.
